“Sometimes when the city pays, they want someone else to pay. And, they wanted it to be him,” his lawyer
David Kirsch told a city administrative law judge who heard Bracey’s case and decided late in 2022 to restore him to his job.
Correction Officer Charlie Bracey with his attorney David Kirsch on Long Island. Kirsch called the attack “an absolute systemic failure of Rikers Island” caused by understaffing.
“All Charlie Bracey did was save this inmate, who may have died that day. He should have been commended by the city,” Kirsch said.
Leroy Rushie, a Jamaican national, hired my firm to help clear his criminal record. With 3 felonies and multiple misdemeanors, Leroy had served many years in prison.
But this incredible man turned his life around, becoming a devoted husband, father, business owner, and community pillar, remaining crime-free for 29 years.
Leroy’s dream was to become an American citizen and visit his loved ones in Jamaica, but his past convictions held him back. After three years of hard work through the courts and a clemency application, I’m thrilled to share that Governor Hochul’s office has granted Leroy a FULL PARDON!
Thank you, Governor Hochul, and congratulations, Leroy! Here’s to new beginnings and brighter futures!

My client Rosie, a Jamaican national hired my law firm in 2021, to see if I could help her clear her criminal record. At the time, she had a Felony conviction and several misdemeanor convictions on her record dating back to the 1980s and 1990s, making it impossible to secure certain types of employment, and preventing her from seeing her family in Jamaica for over 30 years.
Nevertheless, Rosie worked hard, raised a family and became a pillar to her community and has remained crime free for nearly 30 years. Rosie came to me because she wanted to be an American citizen, and she wanted to visit her friends and family in Jamaica, but her prior record continued to haunt her, at times causing feelings of helplessness. The new feeling of the day is hopeful!!!
We worked these cases for three and half long years, through the Bronx Court system, and with assistance from the Office of the District Attorney of Bronx County, Rosie’s final conviction was dismissed today and she is on her way to United States Citizenship.
